You love jazz music, and you can’t get enough of Jamaican cuisine. Put those two together by attending the Second Sunday Jazz Brunch at Jamaica Jamaica Cuisine. The next one will be on July 14, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it will feature delicious food and music from Anthony Thomas Martinez and Friends. You don’t have to buy a ticket for this event, but you can register online to let the restaurant know you’ll be there. Then you just need to head over in the late morning or early afternoon for some tasty eats and smooth jazz.
Here’s what you need to know about the brunch.
The Food
Never been to a Jamaican brunch before? You might not know what to expect. Jamaica Jamaica offers a nice assortment of island and traditional favorites. The saltfish and fried dumplings are a huge hit. This dish is paired with ackee and callaloo. Ackee is a fruit that’s popular in Jamaica, and callaloo is a leafy vegetable.
Oh, and then there’s the chicken and waffles. That doesn’t sound very Jamaican, does it? Well, it gets the Jamaican treatment during the Sunday brunch. The chef puts Jamaica jerk seasoning on it to give it that island flavor. The shrimp and grits get the same treatment, so you can enjoy your favorite southern food with a Jamaican twist.
Do you want to stick with something traditional? You can get sausage and eggs, breakfast potatoes, and salmon croquettes when you dine here as well.
The Drinks
Brunch and cocktails usually go together, and you have lots of options at Jamaica Jaimaca Cuisine. The mimosas are out of this world. The staff creates mimosas using the best island flavors, such as pineapple coconut and mango. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Jamaican brunch without mojitos. You can get mojitos in a variety of island flavors as well. The staff uses top-shelf liquor for the various cocktails, and they are still affordable.
The Music
You’ve got the food and the drinks. Now, what about the music? Anthony Thomas Martinez and Friends put on quite a show. The music is at the perfect volume for you to enjoy the tunes while still conversing with your friends and family. It adds to the atmosphere and makes you feel like you’re on a vacation instead of hanging out in San Antonio.
