Explore San Antonio Through The San Antonio River Walk

Water always serves to anchor a community, and the river that winds its way through San Antonio is no different. On either side of the San Antonio River, the River Walk sees year-round activity as locals and visitors alike explore the various shops, restaurants, and other attractions. If you haven’t walked by the riverside yet, check out what you’re missing.

Food and Drink

You have no shortage of dining options along the river, from causal fare to elegant white tablecloth. With its eye-catching, colorful umbrellas lining the riverside, Casa Rio has served delicious Mexican fare by the water for over 50 years. If you’re craving Italian, Zocca has you covered in one of the river walk’s most scenic vantage points. If the Texas sun is beating down, you can chill out with a frozen beverage from Rita’s on the River or something sweet from Justin’s Ice Cream Company.

If you’ve brought an appetite, you can opt for a hearty steak at the Little Rhein Steakhouse in La Villata. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just curious about the city’s upscale offerings, you may enjoy elevated cuisine at restaurants like Biga on the Banks, Boudro’s, St. Anthony’s, or Hotel Valencia.

Arts and Culture

You can immerse yourself in the history of the American West at the Briscoe Western Art Museum, exploring a year-round exhibit of artwork and artifacts like pottery, sculpture, and even an ornate stagecoach. The San Antonio Museum of Art will open the doors to thousands of years’ worth of artistic expression from all around the world. If you’re a devoted patron of the arts, you could spend all day at the historic La Villata arts village.

Nightlife

When the sun sets and the river glitters with lamplight, you and your friends can stay out and have a lively night on the town. We have some incredible talent here in San Antonio, and you can always catch some live music or dance the night away at Jazz Texas, MadDog’s, Howl at the Moon, and other venues.

On the Water

If you want to take in the River Walk from a unique perspective, you can drift downstream with Go Rio Cruises. You can learn about the city round you on a guided tour, or simply catch a river taxi to reach your next destination. Tours are available from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. each day, and the taxis run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
