Johnny Rzeznik and Robby Takac of The Goo Goo Dolls have been recording and performing together since 1986, and you can soon hear over 30 years’ worth of classics live in San Antonio!

The band will play at the Majestic Theatre on Sunday, October 27. The music starts at 7:30 p.m., with Fort Worth’s The Unlikely Candidates opening the show. The Goo Goo Dolls
The band’s three-decade career has yielded an impressive amount of top hits and awards, and their signature sound has set records all along the way. Their smash hit “Iris” held the number one spot on the Hot 100 chart for 18 weeks, clinching the title of “Top 100 Pop Songs 1992–2012” on the Billboard chart. The song was originally recorded for the 1998 movie City of Angles and went on to introduce the Goo Goo Dolls to new fans across the pop, rock, and contemporary genres. To record the track, Rzeznik tuned every string to the same note, except for the bass string, resulting in a uniquely resonant effect.
What’s in a Name?
The band’s name has always been a head-scratcher for many listeners, but the inspiration was a spur of the moment decision. When the band was starting out in the mid-‘80s, they found themselves booking gigs without a name. In a rush to provide a name for the bill, they referred to an issue of True Detective and saw an ad for a children’s toy. The “Goo Goo Doll” stood out to the young musicians, and the name stuck.
